Our Story

Every fragrance tells a story. Ours begins in an airport.

My very first job was a Saturday position in a duty-free shop, surrounded by some of the world's finest French perfumes and aftershaves. It was there that I discovered the remarkable power of fragrance. One breath could evoke a memory, transport you to another place, or stir emotions that words simply could not describe. From that very first scent, I was captivated.

That fascination soon became a passion. I travelled to Paris to visit the Musée du Parfum before continuing to Grasse, the historic heart of French perfumery. Walking through the birthplace of so many legendary fragrances only deepened my curiosity. I wanted to understand how carefully selected ingredients could be blended into something capable of creating such powerful feelings and lasting memories.

Back home, I began experimenting with natural essential oils, blending fragrances purely for the joy of creating something beautiful. Family and friends soon started asking me to recreate familiar scents or develop entirely new ones tailored to their own tastes. Every blend taught me something new.

Then one day, while smelling one of my latest creations, a friend smiled and simply said, "That would make a wonderful candle."

That single comment changed everything.

Creating exceptional candle fragrances is very different from creating a perfume. A fragrance must not only smell beautiful in the bottle, but also deliver a rich, balanced aroma when the candle is lit, filling a room without overwhelming it. It is a craft that demands creativity, technical knowledge, patience, and countless refinements. Some fragrances take dozens of iterations before every note is exactly where it should be.

For me, fragrance creation has never been about following trends or copying what already exists. It is about crafting distinctive scents that create atmosphere, awaken memories, and transform everyday moments into something special.

That passion became Jonathan Russell Candles.

Every candle is inspired by the same fascination that began all those years ago in a small airport duty-free shop. Each fragrance is carefully composed, tested, refined, and perfected with one goal in mind: to create beautiful scents that people genuinely love to live with.
